Random thoughts on Terengganu restaurants to be closed for Friday Prayer

"他說，只要是穆斯林上門光顧的餐飲店都必須在週五午間祈禱時段關閉2個小時，以避免穆斯林男子在餐飲店流連而不去祈禱。"

Translation: He (Datuk Ahmad Razif, Terengganu Menteri Besar) said, all halal restaurants must be closed for 2 hours (12:30pm to 2:30pm) on Friday, to prevent Muslims from staying in restaurants and not attending Friday congregational prayer.

Sometimes I wonder what the majority Malaysia Muslims think about all these "rules". Do they see these rules (including no hugging, no wearing of other race/religion attire) as necessary too?

眼看这么多人反对这计划，肯定是 local community cannot accept 咯。

Interesting article that touches entrepreneurship in Seoul.

Part of the reason why youngster flock back to Seoul.

"Choi thought about starting a company after graduation, but he had a problem: His student visa had expired. He didn't have the $1 million in cash necessary to qualify for an investor visa, so he figured his only option would be to get a job and hope that his employer would sponsor his application for permanent residence. He went on a dozen interviews at American medical-device companies, but none were interested, and he finally enrolled in a master's program at Cornell to stay for another year. When it was over, he gave up on the States, returned to Korea, and took a job at the pharmaceutical division of SK, one of the country's largest conglomerates."

Of course, Government's initiatives are the key factor.

Fundings

Over the past two years, the South Korean government has launched a series of policies designed to help people like Choi. The Small and Medium Business Administration—South Korea's version of the SBA—has created hundreds of incubators throughout the country, offering entrepreneurs free office space, thousands of dollars in grants, and guaranteed loans.

 Government's participation in bridging the economy.

Last December, Shin was summoned to South Korea's version of the White House—the Blue House—for a meeting with the country's president, a former Hyundai executive named Lee Myung-bak. In attendance were the CEOs of many of the country's largest companies—LG, Samsung, SK, and half a dozen others.

Looking back at Malaysia, those 3 key initiatives aren't really addressed by the government properly.

Internet infrastructure is terrible. The typical home broadband connection is still at ~1Mbps, and signal lost happened all the time.

Well, having said that, maybe entrepreneurship isn't part of the interest of the government after all.

Sadly, this is the fundamental problem with Malaysia - people (talent) flocking away.

Seriously, if they don't know how to do tunnelling properly, they should consult Singapore!

Here's the reason why Malaysia MRT development is slow, and why there are so many issue/problems with the development...

Seriously, not trying to be racist here, but if the government still holds on to Malay rights, they are seriously ruin the country's future.

If they (the local Malays) wants to be part of the development, or country's economy. Then they got to fight hard, fight equally to prove their worth. Even the government manage to spoon fit them into mega projects, they will still not going to do well eventually, simply because they are not up to it in the first place.

(See all the nonsense comments recently? Including MRT issues. You'll understand what I meant.)

Before I came over to Singapore, I always thought its okay to let them enjoy their "Malay rights". But after 5 years here, I realize the Malays here, those around me are outstanding! They fought hard to be the best and prove themselves in the society, and earned respects from others.

The Malays in Singapore are totally different from Malaysia.

This is what will happen when people aren't open minded and over-sensitive and over-protective towards religions. (I'm a person that doesn't believe in any religion. I acknowledge those religion that teaches good practices and moral values.)

There are so many other issues that we should focus on instead of fighting over something (nonsense) like this.

For example, global issue - over population.

For example, nation issue - corruption.

The problem is, most of these so called leader aren't well educated. They didn't receive proper higher education (in Science and Technology). They weren't taught to embrace diversity, love peace, accept others, and most important - equal human rights. They always thought themselves as superior.

There are serious hole in Malaysia education systems.

Not sure how long will it takes for those countrymen (those group of people) to accept others, and open up their mind.

Maybe by that time its already too late for them to enjoy peace, because the other global crises, like energy depletion, overpopulation, environment pollution already at its peak.

What an non-sense accusation by the DIGP.

#Bersih (means "clean") is a organized and peaceful demonstration. And the police (and the Government) just overreacted.

Maybe its really the time to reform Malaysia Government. To wipe out those leaders/heads who aren't serious or put in effort in fulfilling their role to serve the public.

Some (or most) leaders in Malaysia now aren't really aware of whats going on on the ground. They are just puppets that lives in the older communication world - listen here and there or to their superior. And sometimes misuse their power, for self-gain, hence corruption.

Malaysia is really sick, and people need to stand up to reform a clean, equal, and SMART country. All these is essential in order for a competitive country. (Quite sad to read news now and then about companies shifting there production factory or HQ to neighbouring countries).

So if you haven't register as a voter, do it soon! :)

- Government Agencies will be charged RM0.50 for each email sent to users.
- Users will be charged for extra services like "more secure" with 'encryption".
- Every email will be charged.
- Users will be charged for document storage.


That means Government will be charged for RM2.8 million for every time they send out emails to public. That's people's tax money!

That means public will be charged for sending email & email security.

There are just too many questionable problems behind this project.

1. Whats the rational behind the 1Malaysia Email project?
Why we need this additional to Email to receive notification from Gov when we can have free and secure email from other provider like Gmail/Hotmail?

2. Even Hotmail (14 years) can't filter spam properly. If we were to receive Gov notification through this email account, is it secure enough? 

3. Tricubes, the company behind this project is facing delisting from Bursa Saham. http://bit.ly/dIf3ls Will it be capable enough to lead this MEGA project?

Wonder will this be another junk project? Most importantly security-concern project.

20110115 Kukup Trip

Date: 15-16 Jan 2011

Went on a 2D1N trip to the fishing village at Kukup, Johor, Malaysia, with fellow (ex-)Raggers.

Total spent: about RM130/pax.

• RM90/pax package which includes accommodation + main meals + . (You can refer to the package details here, and the list of activities here).
• RM5.40 for the bus ticket to bus station at Jalan Pantai, Pontian, then another RM2.90 bus ride to Kukup.
• RM80 per taxi ride back to City Square, Johor Bahru.

Day 1

0830 - Depart from Kranji, Singapore.

1000 - Reach Larkin Bus Station (Kompleks Pengangkutan Awam Larkin), Johor, Malaysia.

1145 - Reach Pontian Bus Station, Jalan Pantai, Pontian, Johor.

1300 - Reach Kukup

1400 - Reach our home-resort : 豪翔海上渡假屋.

1400 Karaoke.
1600 - Tea break (provided).

1730 - Walk around Kukup Fishing village.

1930 - BBQ

2200 - Send off Kong Ming Lantern （孔明灯） along with our wishes.

2230 - Watch DVD (The Attack of Shark). Horrible movie.

0000 - Sleep.

Day 2
0730 - Wake up. Read "The Facebook Effect" while enjoying morning sea breeze.
0900 - Walk around Kukup main street, and tapau-ed Wan Tan （云吞） noodle back, to eat along with the breakfast prepared by the tour-guide.
1130 - Visit "Kelong" (Fish Farm), which is also included in the package.
1300 - Lunch at Seafood restaurant.
1430 - Take taxi back to City Square, Johor Bahru.

Comments:

• Its a very, very, relaxing trip. 
• Theres nothing much to see in this small fishing village (approx 200 houses, according to the tour guide), but its definitely a good place to enjoy your time with friends. 
• One thing to note is that, the village is not really that clean. So for those over clean-conscious people, this might be an issue.

Food/Snack to note:

• 菜燕糕。

Things to note:

• "Pistol fish" at "Kelong" (Fish Farm), very interesting.

Haha, funny facts from his speech. Obviously, he didn't do his homework before giving this kind of speech. Simple maths will cause him to lose his place in the parliament.

According to him, he just need 70% of the Malays in his area to vote for him.

70% of 32,000 Malays = 22,400 (Malays that he needed to vote for BN)
30% of 32,000 Malays = 9,600 (Malays not needed to vote for BN)
11,500 Chinese (votes that he doesn't even care about), 
5,500 Indian (votes that he doesn't even care about)
Total votes NOT for BN = 9,600 + 11,500 + 5,500= 26,600 (more than  22,400)

(Banned) TV3 Hari Raya Commercial 2010

This is the Raya Commercial (by TV3) that was taken down just few days after aired. Apparently this commercial became highly controversial, and a lot people protested and demanded TV3 to apologize.

So disappointed that there are still so many narrow minded Malaysian.

Religion suppose to be something that can open our mind, let live in a harmonious environment with one another.

This reminds me of another Youtube video that I watched the other day, by Hishamuddin Rais. He talks about Malaysia's problem - the nature of its politic that make use of races and religion to gain support from the people.

Many critical points which I think people, especially Malaysian should know about. All these points has been raised frequently by other sociologists too.



One Malaysia - must start from addressing the root of all problem - Political structure.

Korean BBQ Restaurant at Taman Molek, Johor Bahru

Always wanted to post this long-due makan post, but just can't find the info about this restaurant. Finally found the info at OpenRice.

Went to this Korean BBQ Restaurant - Restaurant Han at 76, Jalan Molek 1/28, Taman Molek, Johor Bahru, 81100 with aunt and cousin on 14 July, Saturday.

Overall the food there is nice, and its very cheap. Just look at the amount of side-dish they served, and the portion is big too. We spent about RM85, which is about SGD35.

I think its a new shop, because all the neighbouring lots are still without tenants. The owners are Koreans, can tell from their look, and accent.

28 July 2010 -The courts have reserved judgement in the hearing on VK Judicial Review on the president’s powers of discretion in granting clemency. Judge says he will try and expedite the ruling. Read here.
