Make Windows Load Your Desktop Before You Log In

Saw this video on Youtube. For those of you who thinks your desktop loads very slow, you can try this method save time - let your Windows load while you go do other things.

Pretty useful :)

Windows 7 GodMode

Just saw this news about the Windows 7 and its GodMode.

GodMode is a feature that was revealed by CNet's Microsoft Correspondent, Ina Fried. GodMode is a folder that brings together a long list of customization settings allowing you to change all your settings from one place.

Neat huh? It's very easy to enable and very useful if you tweak things around a lot.

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

GodMode is actually a shortcut to accessing the operating system's various control settings.

Adding RAW Image Support for Your Camera in Windows 7

Windows 7's Pictures Explorer shows thumbnail views of JPEG and other supported imaging formats when you select the Medium icon, Large icon (default), or Extra Large icon views. However, RAW files (which are camera-specific) display only icons if you have not already installed the appropriate codecs for your camera. To install RAW file support for your camera:

  1. Open your favorite web browser.
  2. Navigate to http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/downloads/codecs.aspx
  3. Click the link for your camera.
  4. Verify that the codec works with your camera and Windows release (32-bit or 64-bit)
  5. Download and install the codec.

After installing the appropriate codec, you will be able to see thumbnail views for both JPEG and RAW files in Pictures Explorer.

Google Chrome Lag Solved

Found out the problem with the lag for Google Chrome.

Its described in Microsoft KB Article 929868.

To work around with this issue, you can change the Windows Scaling factor to 2. The following steps explains it.
  1. Click Start and type CMD.
  2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to open the command Prompt with Administrative rights.
  3. Type the following and press ENTER
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted

This will set the autotuninglevel to "Allow the receive window to grow beyond its default value, but do so very conservatively".

Reboot.
---
To restore, just type the following:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Reboot.
--
You can also disable autotuning with the following command:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel= disable

Reboot.
--

Note: This should solve other high-ping related network issue too :)

Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 to Windows 7 RC Build 7100 -What you need to know

Source: http://tr.im/m0Fo

  • Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD
  • Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build)
  • Browse to the sources directory
  • Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad
  • Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For
  • example, change 7100 to 7000
  • Save the file in place with the same name
  • Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed

Warning: It is not recommended to upgrade from Beta 7000 to RC 7100.

If you manage to upgrade, can post a reply at http://tr.im/m0G6
