Personality Test

Results from personality test, http://www.quizbox.com/personality/test82.aspx.

Your view on yourself:

You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties.
The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:

You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.
Your readiness to commit to a relationship:

You prefer to get to know a person very well before deciding whether you will commit to the relationship.
The seriousness of your love:

You are very serious about relationships and aren't interested in wasting time with people you don't really like. If you meet the right person, you will fall deeply and beautifully in love.
Your views on education

Education is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.
The right job for you:

You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life.
How do you view success:

You are confident that you will be successful in your chosen career and nothing will stop you from trying.
What are you most afraid of:

You are concerned about your image and the way others see you. This means that you try very hard to be accepted by other people. It's time for you to believe in who you are, not what you wear.
Who is your true self:

You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve.

NTU hit by second suspected suicide

Singapore school hit by second suspected suicide

A Singapore university has been shaken by a second suspected suicide on campus in a week after a Chinese national was found hanged in his dormitory room, police and press reports said Sunday.

The body of Zhou Zheng, 24, a project officer with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University, was found by flatmates on Friday, a police spokesman said.

He was from the same school as David Hartanto Widjaja, an Indonesian student who stabbed and wounded a professor before committing suicide on March 2.

The Straits Times newspaper said the two were believed to have worked in the same laboratory in the school but quoted university officials as saying the incidents were unrelated and the two were unlikely to have known each other.

Zhou had previously worked with a memory-chip manufacturer but was retrenched last year as Singapore entered its worst economic recession.

He started his new job in the university, where he earned his engineering degree, on the same day Widjaja attacked the professor and killed himself by jumping off a pedestrian bridge in the school.

Another undergrad passed away...

Dear Students,

Scott Jared Monat

We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of one of our exchange students, Mr Scott Jared Monat, a second-year neurobiology major from the University of Miami. While there has been much media speculation surrounding the circumstances of his passing, I would like to share with you the facts relating to the incident.

In the early hours of Wednesday, 4 March 2009, the Resident Advisor at Prince George’s Park Residences (PGPR), Assoc Prof Daniel Seng, was called to an emergency involving Scott. A friend who was with Scott at the time had sent the alert when Scott collapsed in his room following some breathing difficulties. The PGPR Cluster Leader, Resident Assistants and Assoc Prof Seng, together with some students, rendered assistance and called for an ambulance. Scott was admitted to the nearby National University Hospital at about 5.30 am. Unfortunately, he did not respond to medical treatment there and passed away at about 6.20 am.

The NUS Crisis Emergency Team took immediate steps to inform Scott’s family, his home university and the US Embassy in Singapore. Vice-Dean Prof Wong Sek Man, Incident Commander for the Faculty of Science, conveyed the sad news to Scott’s family in the US while our International Relations Office contacted the University of Miami in Coral Gables and the embassy. Staff from the Office of Student Affairs and University counsellors also met up with Scott’s immediate hostel mates and course mates at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to offer support.

Yesterday, Scott’s cousin arrived from Hong Kong as the family’s representative. Prof Wong accompanied him to the Singapore General Hospital Mortuary and the Singapore Casket to arrange for Scott’s body to be brought home. A small group of NUS staff and counsellors stayed with Scott’s cousin as he met up with Scott’s closest friends here. Scott’s body will be brought home to his family in the US today. The cause of his unfortunate passing is under police investigation.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Scott’s family and friends. We would also like to thank those in the NUS community who tried to help Scott during the incident, as well as those who assisted, and continue to assist, Scott’s family and friends during this difficult time.

The University will continue to provide counselling support to affected staff and students who have lost a dear student and friend. NUS counsellors can be reached at tel: 6516 2376 and email: cps@nus.edu.sg.

Thank you.

Prof Tan Eng Chye
Deputy President (Academic Affairs) & Provost

Student jumps to his death after stabbing lecturer at Nanyang Technological University
A final-year male student jumped to his death after stabbing and wounding a lecturer at Nanyang Technological University today.

NTU identified the dead man as David Hartanto Widjaja, a 21-year-old Indonesian-Chinese student.

It said Professor Chan Kap Luk, 45, was in a stable condition in National University Hospital.

Mr Hartanto Widjaja and Prof Chan were both from NTU's Electrical and Electronics Engineering faculty, where the attack took place.

Reports say Mr Hartanto Widjaja had slit his wrists before leaping to his death. A statement from NTU said he had fallen from the top of a covered linkway between two buildings.

The glass roof of the linkway was splattered with blood.

Police at the scene were trying to establish a motive for the attack, which sent shockwaves across the campus and horrified friends and family of both men in Singapore and Jakarta.

"The university is deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened," NTU President, Dr Su Guaning, said in a statement.

"The matter will be investigated thoroughly. The university community will rally together at this difficult time and do our utmost to help the student’s family, the professor and his family, and those traumatised by the incident.”

Past and present NTU students were shaken.

They said the dead man had been a bright and friendly student who came to Singapore to study after graduating from SMUK 1, a top high school in Jakarta, where he had excelled at mathematics.

Ivan Jeremiah, 23, an ex-NTU student who was also the assailant's schoolmate at SMUK 1, told MSN he was "shocked" by the tragedy.

"He was quite high-profile in school and used to appear in school journals and magazines," said Mr Jeremiah. "I never expected that something like this would happen to him."

Dr Su said the university’s counselling professionals have been mobilized to help.

NTU was helping the police with investigations, he said.
