Random Update

Typical work desk at home.

Been busy everyday for the past few months, trying to code out the alpha stage of my website project.

Ah, the progress is just so slow, when you only have weekends to work on it. Maybe because I'm not that experience in developing a complete website.

Nevertheless, its still a good experience that I enjoy very much.

Great Power come Great Responsibility

Was working on a new server of one of the client, and got this interesting system message.

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

    #1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
    #3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Quick update for my day:

Very mafan to work on other people's server. Got connection, firewall, account privilege, all kinds of issues. Just feel so unproductive today! argh!

Updates

Haven't update my blog for quite some time already. So decided to do a quick update here.

New home

Found a new place to rent with friends at Serangoon. The place is really good. Its just beside MRT station, across NEX shopping complex, a stone throw away from the market just behind our block.

The house is newly renovated and refurnished. Went over to take a look during last weekend. The owner told us that they just painted the walls. Looks pretty!

Signed the contract for 1-year already - $2500/month. So will be moving in around mid-June. Excited!

Jobs

Pretty much the same, still busy with the same project last week.

Company just finish setting up and done IP/firewall planning the new servers. Got the opportunity to involve in the process. Really learnt a lot since day-1, especially on server virtualization. Didn't know that there are so many open source, or proprietary software (with free basic features) that can be combined to power the whole server system. (If only I start to look for internship in my early days in Uni, I would be able to learn much more and maybe do a better job in my FYP. =.=")

Projects

Got a few projects that I want to work on. But just can't seems to find the time to sit down properly to do. Gosh! Gotta force myself to do over the coming weekends!

Home

Miss home (actually, miss slacking at home), but not time yet to go back home! Still need to chiong first! :p

Updates

Work

Followed Samuel to Sim Lim Square after work today. We went to Teknet to discuss about server upgrade for the company.

After that, while waiting for his gf to arrive, we sat down at coffee shop, and he explained his plan for the coming weeks + coming months in terms of the server upgrade.

Basically the very very rough idea is to do a overall hardware upgrade and adopt virtualization + NAS for the server architecture. All these are to prepare for the plans for the coming months.

Can't wait to get my hands on the new hardware and start configuring and putting the systems together.

p/s: bought a 8GB SanDisk thumb drive for S$15 just before coming back just now.

Dinner

As usual, YC cooked dinner for me :) Today its 炒饭+咸饭+杂菜饭 then + another egg.

Oh, yesterday was mi hun kuey 面粉糕.

Hmm, her 厨艺 really improved a lot. Hehe.

(Raya) Gathering

Spent this year's Raya with rag (KRhome) friends at CCK - Kam and Hoongsoon's place. We gathered around noon to buy foods from from nearby Fair Price, and cook steamboat for lunch+dinner. Super full, because all the food cost near $200. Oh, after that still got ice-cream as dessert.

Glad to meet up with all of them to catch up with one another.

Special thanks to Hoongsoon for subsidizing, and because our conversation topic for the day :)

Okay, this is the first time me, Jw and Tina cook after moving here at Aljunied.

Just simple dishes: Vege + Carrot soup :) Okay lar, not that bad the taste.

Tuition

Started giving tuition for Sec3 Additional Maths yesterday :) Think not bad. Although I really don't know whether the way I teach is too simple or not. Cause sometimes, the concepts that I thought would be harder, the kid understands; But, some simple concept, she don't.

Ah, just gonna stick with my just-go-through-everything way :)

Internet

Ah, its hell.... no internet connection for the past few days (and the coming few days). Waiting for the owner to give us the house rental agreement so that we can apply for internet connection. Now I'm using the mobile broadband borrowed from Simin. Super slow... haha... too spoiled by the super fast connection in-campus.

Anyway, thinking of going for Starhub Broadband plan. Wanted to support Singtel, but Starhub's plan is simply way better. I checked from their websites.

Guess next year when my mobile contact ends, I'll switch over to Starhub as well. Just can't stand Singtel's 1-minute-block charges.

WorldCup

Ah, missed all the fun because of slow internet connection. Back then in hall, I would just stream slightly HQ matches. But here, even the LQ videos cannot stream.

Hope can get our internet connection set-up asap.

New Place - Aljunied

Shifted to new house at 5 Upper Aljunied Lane! The HDB abit small, but still okay lar, I don't need big space anyway. The place is very accessible, can reach all the MRT lines by bus in few stops.

Dissected my Toshiba Tecra M5

After 4 years, finally, this is the first time I dissected my Toshiba Tecra M5.

The reason I open up is because there are black particles ("big black" dust) keep coming out from the fan-&-heatsink part. And alot of it. So I opened up to check the internal, and clean it at the same time.

Went down to Sim Lim Square around 11.30pm to change my RAM which defected few weeks back. Initially I wanted to buy another new RAM, but got shocked by the price increase. The 2GB RAM that I bought in Jan 2009 was $28. Now, the same RAM cost $78... Almost 3 fold! Can u imagine that!

Ah, its official... got rejected by Blbg. Got a call from Kim when I just about to take a nap around 5pm. Ah... after 4 interviews, they decided to take another Hong Kong guy.

zzz... JW has been sleeping whole day.... before I went out, he still sleeping, after I came back around 3, he is still sleeping... YC say he got wake up in between, around 1pm... zai la... Haha.

20090905 Orchard Outing

Went Orchard with YC, Jiawei, Tina, Simin, (and Cindy). Plan to buy formal shirt from Gant at first, but who knows all the shirts there don't suit my taste, and not very cheap also although its clearance.

Went Ding Tai Fung eat after that.

Then we walked around ION. Most of the shops there opened already. Theres a shop that sells super cute miniatures on the 4th floor! Damn cute lar!!! and some of it even can be idea for RAG.... oh gosh, I still can't get rid of my 职业病. (Actually, before this, thought of cladding idea from another shop also when I saw the texture of the products. =p)... Gosh, have to tell myself: Time to move on alr lar...........!

Went down to PA, Kallang with PEngineers on last Saturday (1st, November) around 2pm.
We noted down all the claddings that need to be replaced so that we can start preparing material and mass producing next week.
After that, we went to the nearby coffeeshop for our lunch. Ah, lunch at 4.30pm?!? Pretty late huh?

I slept for 9 1/2 hours again yesterday.

I think its because I have class from 10-7.30 yesterday, actually 12 onwards is project meeting. Plus, yesterday couldn't sleep until 5am... -o-

Its like almost 1/2 a day gone.

Went Sheares supper with RAGGERs gang on Thursday. We shared a whole chicken (Thursday's special). Ah, quite full, actually eat until sienz in the end. Anyway, the whole chicken is only $10.

Got into Badminton and Squash =). Squash meeting yesterday at 10pm, followed by badminton at 11.30pm.
Ah, need to buy a racket for squash. According to Shiqian, its about $110.

Why do I even bother?

I miss those seniors who are always so supportive to us, fight for our welfare, and guide us along our way, especially for RAG.

Somehow, this year, the JCRCs aren't that supportive. They seems like don't understand how RAG functions, and they don't bother to understand. They like to do things according to their own thinking, with the mindset that that should be the way. They don't even consult the previous JCRCs. They assume things, assume that 'that should be the way'. Of course there are reasons why people do things that way in the past.

Haih...

Why do I even bother about this matter? I already 金盆洗手-ed... Told myself that I will concentrate for my studies this Sem onwards...

Insomnia now... -.-
