Grandpa Lady Gaga Poker Face Dance

This is ultimate - Grandpa goes GAGA! :)

Seriously, look at the movement of the feet. He looks like near 70 years old, but still can dance like that. Reminds me of the the break-dancing old man in Britain's Got Talent.

Respect.

A Tragic Incident at Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010

Saw this article in FB about the incident at KL Marathon yesterday. Its about how inefficient is the authority and the medical team in saving (or preventing) the death of a runner, Lim.

after we performed CPR procedures on Lim for the the third time, finally a St. John ambulance came after around 15 - 20 minutes after Lim collapsed…

we let the EMS officers to take over the CPR and First Aid… Dr. Visva asked whether do they have the AED(Automated External Defibrillator)… one of the person from the EMS said that they do not have it.. then I asked whether do they have a face mask with pump.. they also did not have it there… THEY PRACTICALLY HAVE NOTHING IN THE AMBULANCE!!!!!!!! -.-"

"Wah, not bad, 很准一下 (very accurate)... =.=' "

Recap:
Feb - Lost my wallet after withdrew and top-up my cards...
Mar - Hard-disk crashed with all my personal data, photos...
Apr - My desktop failed on me few days before project deadline...
May - ...
Jun - Laptop crashed...

Can't believe it... suay-ness to the max really... Hmm, I can foresee the coming suay-ness should be...

What Peace is About

Went to a peace carnival at SGI, Tampines yesterday afternoon. I find that the whole carnival is very informative and meaningful.

Just one of the talk which I have "opinions" about. And I think most people have this particular "bad habit" of not putting themselves in others' shoes.

1. Theres one section where the speakers talks about how manufacturers "trick" consumers to change the whole computer system by changing just the "specification" of CPU.

2. How manufacturers again try to trick consumers to change their old CRT monitors by portraying that LCD/LED monitors are more "elegant" and "up-to-date".

3. Theres another section where the speakers talks about why must youth support the total abolishment of nuclear weapons in the world.

The things that I think the speakers fail to do is to put themselves in others' shoes and try to understand who are the people working/researching behind all this. And Why they did that. They tend to over simplify things.

1. Computer system

Who? The people researching about computer architectures are computer engineers. They have spent a quarter century of their life studying, and another 5-10 years to work and pick-up experiences in computer industry, before they really start to take-charge in computer system designing.

Why? Computer system issue. Each CPU are only compatible with specific motherboards. So if you were to change to a CPU with different architecture, you must change your motherboard as well (and hence "almost" the whole computer system need to be replaced). Each set of CPU-motherboard has are specifically designed for different performance. The closest analogy to this is your brain-and-body, and the different behavior of each individuals.

This is the explanation in layman term. If you are curious to find out more, there are a lot of "computer architecture" books out there, which I strongly suggest you to read if you are not convinced ;)

2. LCD/LED monitors

Who? Same as above - professionals.

Why? To tackle environmental and heath issue. LCD monitors uses significantly less energy than CRT monitors. And further more, LCD monitors doesn't not emit X-ray radiation as CRT monitors. So, the entire reason behind all this is just for the benefit of consumers. If you think you are tricked, why not change back to the old-dangerous monitor.

3. Nuclear weapon

As mentioned by the speakers, Daisaku Ikeda has been submitting proposal to UN every year to urge for nuclear (weapon) abolishment. The speakers mentioned only about the cons of nuclear weapon and urge everyone to support nuclear abolishment too (without consider the need of nuclear weapons). Try considering the following scenarios:

- A giant meteoroid (the size of moon for example) is going to hit earth. What are we going to use to defend earth?
Just normal rockets? You can't even barely create a scratch on the surface of the meteoroid. Don't mention about changing the course of the meteoroid or even blasting off the meteoroid. (refer to wiki on Asteroid mitigation strategies)

- History. What if atom booms were not dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Most probably all of us won't be here today. And maybe there is only one country in this world.

- Alien invasion. What if earth is invaded by alien which tries to wipe out human race? Use M-16 rifle to fight against their super laser weapon?
(I don't think I need to mention the outcome here...)

Nuclear weapons should exist for planetary defense.

In fact, there are reasons behind every single thing that exist in the world. We shouldn't jump to any conclusion, especially to deny others, without understanding more about it or try to find out about how it can useful.

Try to think for others

What I think peace is really about:
Peace is when people start to work together and try to think/care for one another.

Why MRT not affected by Orchard Flood

Been wondering why Orchard MRT was not flooded when the flash flood hits Orchard Road on 16th June. Turn out that:
That’s because the Orchard MRT station had measures like entrances that were built at least one metre above flood level.

SMRT staff are also trained to handle emergency situations.

Currently, stations at Orchard and City Hall are the only ones equipped with a water—level detecting system.

But SMRT said all its stations are designed to withstand flooding...

[Source: Xin MSN]

Come to think of it, most (if not all) of the entrance to underground stations are at least one metre above ground. Didn't notice that previously.

This is what I call first class design. SMRT management and system engineers did their job well have thought throughly the possible threats that might affect underground train services.

Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360

Kinect for Xbox 360, or previously called Porject Natal, is the new "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience" by Microsoft.

Scheduled to release end of this year. Cool eh? ;)

I think computing experience already shifted towards controller-free devices. SixthSense (2009) for example:

and Future of UI by John Underkoffler

I think the only limitation is the lack of holographic projection technology. As a result we still need a screen for the purpose of display. This will ultimately limits the capability and the functionality of controller-free devices.

Just imagine what will the world be if we can physically interact with digital data? It would be exactly like the environment in Iron Man 2! There will be no limit to how we can pull and manipulate data!
3D Holographic display from "Iron Man 2"
But still these are the first step - gesture and voice recognition for digital data manipulation,  that will lead us to the next generation of computing world. :)

蔡依林 - 妥協

妥協 MV ft. 阮經天

Artist: 蔡依林 Jolin Tsai
Album:

20100613 Universal Studio Singapore

Went Universal Studio Singapore (USS) yesterday (June 14) with Aunt Nancy and Aunt Jane's family and cousins.

Overall comments on USS
The musicals and special effects studio are great.
The queues to take photos with characters are short and fast!
a lot attractions still under construction.
most of the queues are 1 hour long. So might want to consider getting express pass.
some of the entrance path to the rides is just too long. Revenge of the Mummy, for example. USS should just build/open-up 'special' path if the queue is not long.

Hollywood
Monster Rock musical - Live musical and dance, with fireworks and effects. Thumbs up! :)

New York
Lights! Camera! Action! - show case example of special effects used in film-making. Good!

Sci-Fi City
Battlestar Galactica roller coaster - looks promising, but still under construction.

Ancient Egypt
Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster - not bad with reverse section and fire effect ; But the entrance path is too long, too dark and confusing. The should either light it up or put up more signs... unless the purpose is to set up a maze in the "piramid" ;)
Treasure Hunters ride - erm.... for kids.

The Lost World
Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure - sits on a 9-person circular raft and tossed on the waterways in Jurassic Park. Great! The 'lucky ones' will get wet at the finale slide. Hehe ;)
Canopy Flyer - waited 50 minutes for a 53 seconds ride. This is for kids!

Far Far Away
Hook's Knight Club - interactive 'live' show starring Donkey. At first I thought its just another screen movie, but turned out that the character actually interacted with audiences in real time, with sense of humour too! :)
Shrek 4-D Adventure - Not very 3D compared to Disneyland Mickey's PhilharMagic.

Madagascar
Too bad the the ride is not open yet at this point of time.

Here are the compiled photo collages of my day at USS :)

Photos of interesting sights.
Photos with favorite cartoon characters.

Religion

Saw this video in Youtube about a faith healer who "miraculously" heals a woman with a short leg. A lot of people believed blindly. Some even defended the clip blindly without trying to find out how true it is.

A quick Google search revealed that the faith healer in the clip - A.A. Allen,
"was a shameless religious huckster who lived from 1911-1970"
Source: http://www.trinityfi.org/press/donstewart.html
And of course the video is unedited, just that the technique in the clip was just a leg-lengthening trick (Source: suspiciousberean.blogspot.com)

Similar case - Benny Hinn:

http://www.trinityfi.org/press/latimes02.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_hinn#Criticism_and_controversy

I don't understand why there are a lot of Christians does not question much when comes to religious matters. This gives room for those selfish individuals to misuse religion for the own benefits. People, its Jesus who you believe and not the pastors... pastors are also human being.

This leads me to Kong Hee and City Harvest Church. The aquisition of Suntec by CHC... which makes CHC indeed a McChurch. A quote from the speech by KH.
"It is important for Suntec business to keep striving. Because if they proper, we proper. If we proper, the kingdom of God proper."
Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK3LffoOPF8
What could possibly mean by that? If Suntec makes money, then all church members gets a share? And some of the activities by CHC - Asia-lypics and Competition. Example, Beauty Pageant and Manhunt,
Poise, flair and talent – if you are aged between 18-26 and these are all qualities you can call your own, this competition may just be for you! Flash the crowd a smile, you could just be Miss/Mr Asia Conference 2010! The winner will stand a chance to win cash and attractive prizes worth more than S$3,000! So submit your application through your cell group leader to be notified for the first qualifying round.
CHC's Got Talent,
Let your creativity shine and be part of one of Asia Conference’s most exciting and entertaining competitions! Go solo or form a team of 5 members or less and prepare to showcase your talents on Asia Conference’s stage! The rush of bright lights, applause and spectacular prizes awaits you. Whether a song, dance or music item – the sky’s the limit, you can be a star today with the most original, ingenious and talented performance.
And no one (the members) ever questioned the purpose of these activities to the church?

Detected Indonesia telco in Sg?

Weird. My phone detected the my telco operator as "XL". A quick Google search shows that XL might be a Indo Telco. Not entirely sure.

See the "XL" below the clock, and the roaming icon (triangle) on top in the taskbar?

Btw, my SIM is from Singtel.

Update:
I've tried turning on and off flight mode (to reconnect phone line). And even soft-reseted. But still connected to different Indo telco - now is Telkomsel.

Even best, I received "Welcome to Indonesia" roaming message! ; )

I guess it Singtel's problem. Just made 2 calls and sent few messages before I realized I'm "on roaming". Hope I wouldn't charged for any roaming messages or call during this period of time. If not... gg... confirm super ex bill coming end of this month.

Check out my list of available network after running scan, = WIN... wonder why Telkomsel and XL are selected instead of Singtel...

Ah, nvm. Solution? Disabled all other networks, except "Singtel"... =.='
